Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto remix)

Gui Boratto

Ok so i’m really (really) late on this one, which is always weird seeing as i had it before any other blogger. Better late than never though, just like mumma’ used to say.

When i first got all of the Massive Attack remixes in at work, this was instantly my favourite; and i was dead excited to send it out to the world. Last week it was unleashed, and has already made Massive Attack the 3rd most blogged artist on Hype Machine this week; and the remix is in the top 100 chart in 4 serperate posts – the highest being courtesy of The Music Ninja, one of my favourite named blogs ever!

I hadn’t heard much of Gui Boratto before this, i knew he was Brazilian, and that was probably about it. Faced with a masterpiece, They’ve managed to do Paradise Circus full justice, captivating the song over 8:08; slowing it, winding it back and cooling it in to something even more mysterious than the original.

Groove Armada – Shameless (feat. Bryan Ferry) & New single ‘Paper Romance’

Sometimes i just can’t imagine a life without Groove Armada, to be honest they’re not really a band who get a lot of playtime in my collection, but every time they release something new i feel so refreshed, and reminded of how fitting the word ‘Groove’ is in the name. This track surfaced last week from my buddies over at RCRDLBL.com, featuring Bryan Ferry, who i have to confess i have no idea who the hell is, but he looks old and definitely a generation before i was born; the vocals however are an amazing compliment. Enjoy the download below…

The new single ‘Paper Romance’ is out Feb 22nd, and is another encouraging splice of the 2010 Groove Armada sound. I love where it’s going; it’s a lot more calmed down than last year, but still with a big boom underneath.

electro at a disco in a house.

Last week was a tough week, and this weekend is even tougher; i needed something inspiring to get me through it. So far in 2010 music’s slowly crept back in my life after a while of absense. I now manage to do most work while listening to music, where as before it just used to slow my productivity big time; I think it’s mainly down to having a bunch of creative projects going down rather than brutal high-concentration-typing-my-ass-off work, and music’s helped that along if anything.

It’s been a real ‘house’ kind of month, disco just helps the winter along and makes getting up in the dark 10 times easier! These are my favourites so far this Janruary…

So many things stand out in this, check out the tracklisting for the goodness.

Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (NSFW)

Massive Attack are back! Heligoland, the new album drops Feb 9th. We saw the E.P. Splitting The Atom back in October do a lot of justice to the band, one of the videos off that EP visualised (controversially) a bullfight in a very film-art way; and this video is more testament to the explicit and bizarre MA entity.

Check out some insight of a hooker’s life, this old chick was a mad ass porn star once, real talk!

Warning! This clip contains nudity, rudeness and sex shit

Plan B – Stay Too Long (Video + Pendulum remix)

It’s been a while since Mr. Ben Drew, or how most of us will know him; Plan B dropped his debut album (iTunes) in 2006. He made a very respectable name for himself in a time when UK rap and grime was hurting a bit, and a new face, especially a white one was a fresh and welcome treat.

Since then we haven’t seen much since the song and lyric days of pre-teens called Charmaine getting looked up, even younger ones getting knocked up; and the so fitting London tone of which Plan B dropped ‘cunt’ and ‘fuck’ all throughout the album. It was more cursing than anyone had heard for a long while, but no one could deliver an album like that otherwise, it was amazing.

Other than seeing his face in a pretty successful film ‘Adulthood‘, and a tight role in Chase & Status’ top 10 single ‘End Credits’; there wasn’t a lot more going on until the end of this year. Then this happened…

p.s. ohhhh shit, is that Effy from Skins getting cheeky in the elevator at the end? Damn son…

When i first heard ‘Stay Too Long’ i thought it was Jack White! Who knew Benny had a good voice on him? He certainly never flaunted it previously. It’s been a pretty sharp turnaround from a 2006 boy we saw spitting with a guitar to a 2009 flashy smart singer-type; i’m not complaining – the guy can still hold a rhyme and the balance feels just right, bring on the album!

Here’s the Pendulum remix to sort you out; they don’t really flex their muscle until the end but it’s a worthwhile wait.

Van She – (Don’t Fear) The Reaper (B-Live Original)

I agree with Danger! Danger! here; where **** did Van She go? ‘V’ was a kind of disappointment, but there’s some glimmer here with a pretty simmering epic work of Blue Oyster Club’s ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’.

Maybe it’s the original and hook which tickled back the 80’s power-synth vibe which we heard in years ago in ‘Kelly’, fingers crossed it’ll stick!
